Porcelain veneers are thin shells of tooth-colored porcelain that can be used to cover stains or mask flaws such as cracked, broken, or misshapen teeth. Porcelain veneers are sometimes referred to as "instant orthodontics" because they can also be applied to straighten the appearance of a crooked smile.
Tooth whitening is perhaps the most commonly sought cosmetic dentistry procedure at Gary W D Lee DDS. Even the most beautiful smile can appear unhealthy or dull when teeth are stained or yellowed. In as quickly as one brief session, our patients can enjoy smiles that are up to ten shades brighter.
By applying a thin coating of a tooth-colored resin composite material to teeth, Dr. Gary W D Lee can improve the appearance of a number of cosmetic flaws. In many cases, cosmetic bonding is more affordable and just as effective as porcelain veneers, though results will not last as long.
When a person's gums extend too far onto the tooth surface, he or she is said to have a "gummy" smile. In just one painless office visit, Dr. Lee can use a diode laser to gently sculpt the gum line into a more pleasing proportion, making teeth appear larger and the smile more brilliant.
Many patients with crooked or misaligned teeth are hesitant to deal with the hassle or appearance of traditional metal braces. Fortunately, there is Invisalign, a series of clear plastic aligners that gradually cause teeth to shift position. These clear plastic aligners go unnoticed by almost everyone you come into contact with on a daily basis. Orthodontic treatment with Invisalign takes roughly the same amount of
time as traditional braces, but is much more convenient, comfortable,
and discreet. We presently refer our patients to local orthodontists for treatment. Dr. Lee will be taking educational courses to provide Invisalign Orthodontics to our patients in the near future. We will keep you posted.
When a tooth breaks, when a filling becomes too large or when a cavity re-occurs, Dr. Lee will most likely restore functionality and appearance with a dental crown. In cases where the nerve is involved, root canal therapy will be performed prior to the dental crown.
If a patient is missing one or more teeth but is not necessarily a good candidate for partial dentures or dental implants, he or she may be fitted with a dental bridge. A bridge is an artificial tooth that is held in place by a dental crown on either side of the gap created by the missing tooth.
At Gary W D Lee DDS, we offer both full and partial dentures to our patients in the Diamond Bar area. Unlike dental bridges or dental implants, dentures are removable prosthetics. Dr. Lee uses the most modern materials and methods to create our patient's dentures, so they can always be assured of a comfortable fit and the most realistic appearance.
Please note: Contrary to popular beliefs, removable dentures do not replace teeth, they act in the absence of natural teeth. To actually replace a tooth, the prosthesis must be attached to a structure that is supported directly by and embedded in the jaw bone. (This structure is a dental implant.)
Dental implants are titanium posts that are surgically inserted into a patient's jawbone to support permanent replacement teeth. Unlike removable dentures, dental implants never need to be removed for cleaning, and they allow for more comfortable eating and speaking.
Traditional metal fillings are often composed of mercury, which, in addition to creating a black appearance, can be harmful to our patient's health. For this reason, at Gary W D Lee DDS we use only composite, or tooth-colored fillings. White fillings applied by Dr. Lee are less likely to cause tooth breakage like with metal fillings. White fillings are also virtually undetectable which makes your smile healthy and beautiful at the same time.
Many of Dr. Lee's patients combine a number of cosmetic dentistry procedures to achieve the ultimate in smile design. For example, a patient may choose to eliminate the "gummy" appearance of his or her smile with gum recontouring, and then enhance the results with a tooth whitening session.
